J1 Matchweek 32 Recap: Title fight and relegation scrap heat up

Yokohama F·Marinos entered the weekend with a chance to win the title, but it was not to be. The title fight continues for at least one more week, while the battle at the bottom of the table has picked up pace. Let’s round up Matchweek 32!

Yokohama F·Marinos 0, Gamba Osaka 2

Marinos needed a win to have a chance to win the title, but Gamba went to Yokohama and beat the Tricolor. Thanks to goals from Juan Alano and Patric, the race for the championship continues and Gamba climb to 16th place as they aim to avoid relegation.

Kawasaki Frontale 3, Shimizu S-Pulse 2

Kawasaki's push for the title continued on Saturday thanks to a late comeback. Trailing 2-1 with 15 minutes to go, Frontale got a header off a corner kick from Kazuya Yamamura before Yu Kobayashi buried a late winner to pull within five points of Marinos at the top.

Vissel Kobe 4, Sanfrecce Hiroshima 0

Yuta Imazu was shown a red card after just four minutes, handing Vissel a massive advantage that they took with both hands as four different players scored in a fourth straight win for the Ushi. Kobe's win puts them four points clear of the drop zone.

Kashiwa Reysol 0, Cerezo Osaka 0

Reysol’s bid to finish in the top three met its end as their winless streak reached eight matches in a scoreless draw with Cerezo.

Júbilo Iwata 3, Kashima Antlers 3

Júbilo nearly had a crucial win in their relegation battle, but Everaldo Stum scored three minutes into stoppage time to split the points and leave Júbilo nine points from safety.

F.C.Tokyo 0, Shonan Bellmare 2

Shonan needed a result to stay out of the drop zone and they got it, with Hiroyuki Abe scoring late and Shuto Machino following it with a spectacular solo effort that led them to a victory that took them up to 13th place.

Urawa Reds 2, Sagan Tosu 1

Kasper Junker and Yoshio Koizumi put Urawa in front and a late Taisei Miyashiro goal was not enough to bring Sagan back.

Kyoto Sanga 1, Nagoya Grampus 1

Nagoya went in front through an own goal, only to see Rikito Inoue equalize for Sanga, but the real hero was Mitchell Langerak, whose spectacular outing included a penalty save.

Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo 1, Avispa Fukuoka 2

Ryota Aoki gave Consadole an early lead, but Daiki Miya and Juanma scored in the last 15 minutes to bring Avispa back for a massive three points that took them out of the relegation zone.
