J1 Matchweek 15 recap: Top teams all win, while Gamba take massive victory at the bottom

The top of the table remained unchanged as the top five teams all picked up victories, but the big win was at the bottom, where Gamba Osaka earned a much-needed three points.

Vissel Kobe 3, F.C.Tokyo 2

With their lead atop the league down to just three points, Vissel rose to the occasion as Yuya Osako scored his league leading 11th goal of the season and Yoshinori Muto put in two for a three-goal first half. The capital club hit back with a pair to make it close, but the Ushi held on to maintain their place atop the table.

Yokohama F·Marinos 2, Avispa Fukuoka 0

Yan Matheus’ outstanding work set up Anderson Lopes for an early goal, then Anderson lopes hit for his ninth goal of the season to give Marinos some breathing room en route to a win that kept them three points back of the top.

Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo 1, Nagoya Grampus 2

Kasper Junker scored just 27 seconds after kickoff and Mateus added a second as Nagoya remained in third place, four points back of Vissel.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima 1, Shonan Bellmare 0

A 13th minute red card to Koki Tachi put Bellmare on the back foot and Douglas Vieira’s late penalty won it for Sanfrecce, who snapped a two-game losing streak to stay in fourth place.

Cerezo Osaka 2, Yokohama FC 0

Hirotaka Tamada’s strong header give the Sakura a lead and then a beautiful build up left Hikaru Nakahara a tap in for the team’s second goal as Cerezo won to stay fifth in the table.

Kyoto Sanga 0, Urawa Reds 2

Shinzo Koroki and José Kanté each scored as Urawa picked up all three points to move up a spot in the table to sixth.

Sagan Tosu 2, Kashima Antlers 2

Sagan were just minutes away from victory, but Yuma Suzuki’s outstanding header in stoppage time rescued a point for Kashima and put him on eight goals for the season, tied for third in the league.

Kawasaki Frontale 2, Kashiwa Reysol 0

Yu Kobayashi and Kyohei Noborizato were both spot on with their finishes to give Frontale a two-goal lead that they would see out with ease to earn a crucial three points in their climb up the table.

Albirex Niigata 1, Gamba Osaka 3

Gamba finally earned themselves a win with Shu Kurata, Juan Alano and Keisuke Kurokawa each scoring to bring them within one point of safety at the bottom of the table.
