J1 League Match Week 14 Recap: Kashiwa keep pace at the top, Kawasaki-F pick up first win in seven games

Kashiwa Reysol and Kawasaki Frontale were both celebrating on Wednesday night, as they each picked up all three points from their Match Week 14 fixtures.

Kashiwa’s 2-0 victory away at Yokohama F・Marinos extended their winning run to four matches and leaves them just one point behind 2025 MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE leaders Kashima Antlers, while Kawasaki-F claimed their first win in seven games after beating Yokohama FC 2-1.

Kashiwa were the brighter of the two sides in the first half at Nissan Stadium, but the closest they came to opening the scoring was when Yokohama F・M goalkeeper Hiroki Iikura made a smart stop from Yoshio Koizumi in the 16th minute.

Iikura was unable to deny Koizumi 11 minutes after the break, however, as the Kashiwa midfielder arrived late in the box and tucked home with the outside of his right boot after Yuki Kakita had helped on Diego’s cross from the left.

Daiya Tono almost equalised for Yokohama F・M in the 79th minute but saw his header tipped over by Ryosuke Kojima, and Kashiwa substitute Kosuke Kinoshita wrapped up his side’s win in the first minute of injury time, converting Tojiro Kubo’s ball into the area from the edge of the six-yard box.

It only took Yokohama FC four minutes to open the scoring at Uvance Todoroki Stadium by Fujitsu, meanwhile, as Yuri Lara headed in Kaili Shimbo’s in-swinging corner at the near post.

Kawasaki-F pulled level thanks to a piece of quick thinking by Yuki Yamamoto in the 33rd minute, as the midfielder snuck a low free-kick around Kota Yamada and past Yokohama FC goalkeeper Akinori Ichikawa.

Solomon Sakuragawa almost re-established Yokohama FC’s lead on the hour mark but saw his header saved superbly by Kawasaki-F goalkeeper Louis Yamaguchi, and with 10 minutes remaining Kawasaki-F striker Erison hit the bar with a curled left-foot effort from the edge of the area.

The winner did then arrive for the home side four minutes later though, as Ichikawa raced out of his box to head clear and Akihiro Ienaga sent the ball goalwards with a controlled volley from 40 yards.

His attempt bounced once and then came back off the bar, but Yokohama FC defender Boniface Nduka was unable to react quickly enough to the rebounding ball, and in his efforts to control and clear he instead sent it into his own net.
