Iniesta leads the way as Vissel continue their march to the AFC Champions League

Andrés Iniesta’s spectacular second half of the season continued as the Spanish legend led Vissel Kobe to a 2-0 win over Yokohama FC. Iniesta delivered an assist on the Ushi’s opening goal, then scored the second as Vissel moved to the verge of a spot in next season’s AFC Champions League.

Iniesta got Vissel going first with his great work rate. He won a free ball at midfield, then turned and delivered a perfect pass into the path of a streaking Yuya Osako, who raced in on goal. Osako moved the ball over to his right and buried his shot, giving Vissel a ninth minute lead.

The roles were then reversed, with Osako setting up Iniesta. The forward ran at goal from the right, only to be pulled down in the box and earn a penalty. Iniesta took the spot kick, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way before hitting it into the bottom corner to give Kobe a 2-0 lead they would carry to the end.

The win keeps Vissel in third place, with a five-point lead on Nagoya Grampus. There are just two matches left in the MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE season, so an Ushi win next weekend, Grampus loss, or a pair of draws will clinch third place and the accompanying AFC Champions League place for Andrés Iniesta and his team.
