Kashiwa Reysol on Friday announced the signing of Hajime Hosogai on a full transfer from Germany’s Stuttgart, with the midfielder declaring himself “excited and nervous”.
The 30-year-old last played in the J.League in 2010, spending six seasons at Urawa Reds before moving to Germany’s FC Augsburg.
He has since played for Bayer Leverkusen, Hertha Berlin, and Bursaspor before arriving at Stuttgart this season.
Hosogai also boasts 29 caps for the Samurai Blue and was part of Japan’s 2011 AFC Asian Cup-winning squad, and will now look to resume his career on home soil with Reysol.
“I’m equal parts excited and nervous about playing in Japan for the first time in six years, but more than anything I want to help the team achieve our goals for this season,” Hosogai said.
“I’ll give it my all on the pitch to make Kashiwa Reysol an even greater club.”
