The J.League on Tuesday announced Sanfrecce Hiroshima striker Hisato Sato as the MEIJI YASUDA J1 League Coca Cola MVP for July.

Sato recorded three goals and three assists in five appearances last month for second stage leaders Sanfrecce, in the process becoming the first to score 10 or more goals in 12 straight seasons.

The J.League cited his brilliant play in being able to inspire his team-mates in their decision, the veteran thus proving crucial in the club’s perfect five wins from five matches since the restart.

With 154 career goals in the top flight, the 33-year-old is now just three goals away from becoming the J1 League’s all-time leading scorer.
