Hasegawa still sees ACL hope for Gamba

Gamba Osaka manager Kenta Hasegawa sees a chance to advance past the AFC Champions group stage despite failing to record a win in their first three games.

The 2015 semi-finalists encountered another setback on Tuesday with a 1-2 loss at Shanghai SIPG to leave them third in Group G, but the coach still sees positives from the campaign to follow.

“It was a very intense game,” Hasegawa told reporters after the match. “It’s very disappointing that we lost but a lot of our supporters came out and the players didn’t hold back.

“We lacked a bit of concentration and that was the difference in today’s result. It hasn’t been smooth sailing for us, but we have three matches left and two of them are at home.

“We have to earn three points from each those matches and stage our comeback in the second half of this group stage.”
