The quarterfinals of the J.League YBC Levain Cup took place on September 2nd and determined the semifinalists through single-match ties.
Last year’s winners Kawasaki Frontale overwhelmed Vissel Kobe. After Yu Kobayashi scored a brace already within 13 minutes, Manabu Saito, Akihiro Ienaga, Yasuto Wakizaka and Taisei Miyashiro relentlessly extended the lead it to make the final score 6-0.
2019 runners-up Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo got closer to the semifinals when Yoshiaki Komai broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute against Yokohama F.Marinos, but the defending league champions equalized through Jun Amano’s strike in the 77th minute. The game went to penalty shootout, and Yokohama came out as winners who will advanced to the next round.
Kashiwa enjoyed a comfortable win over Cerezo Osaka, thanks to Hiroto Goya’s first-half goal, followed by Ataru Esaka’s brace. FC Tokyo also reached the semifinals by topping Nagoya Grampus 3-0, with Shuto Abe scoring two goals.
