Gamba Osaka produced a plucky display to hold Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their AFC Champions League quarter-finals clash on Wednesday.
The Japanese champions conceded possession to their Korean counterparts for long periods in Jeonju, but a resolute defensive display meant that Gamba goalkeeper Masaaki Higashiguchi was rarely forced to intervene.
Kenta Hasegawa’s men gave a good account of themselves throughout and later enjoyed chances of their own in the second half, notably when Patric drilled just wide after strike partner Takashi Usami set him up.
Gamba’s solid showing, with the score finely poised, ensures there will still be all to play for in the second leg at Expo '70 Commemorative Stadium on September 16.
