Gamba to release striker Patric

Gamba Osaka late last week announced that veteran striker Patric’s contract will not be renewed after its conclusion on June 30.

The 29-year-old, who first arrived in Japan in 2013 when he played for Kawasaki Frontale and Ventforet Kofu, joined Gamba in 2014 and was an important contributor to their J.League MEIJI YASUDA J1 League title that year.

He has not played since October 2016, when he was sidelined by a major injury to his right knee.

“I would like to thank all of the fans who have supported me,” Patric commented. “My time at Gamba Osaka has been a blessing. My goal was to win a title here, and we accomplished that.

“I’m sad to leave my team-mates, but such is the life of a football player. I want to thank everyone at the club, the coaching staff, and all of my team-mates from the bottom of my heart.”
