Gamba & Reds fall to Chinese in ACL

Gamba Osaka had no answer to the class of Ramires as the Brazilian struck the winner for Jiangsu Suning in their 1-0 AFC Champions League Group H win on Wednesday.

Kenta Hasegawa’s men dominated in terms of possession and chances created, but in the end it was the Chinese Super League giants who netted with their only shot on target through the former Chelsea midfielder.

Ramires picked up the ball in the 39th minute and proceeded to curl a left-footed screamer into the top corner to put Jiangsu in a commanding position in their group and inflict on Gamba a second ACL loss.

Things did not go according to plan for Urawa Reds against Chinese opposition either, as they fell 3-2 to Shanghai SIPG in the Group F clash at Shanghai Stadium.

SIPG roared into a 3-0 lead through Shi Ke, Elkeson - who capitalised on Shusaku Nishikawa’s error - and Hulk, though the Reds staged a valiant, if ultimately unsuccessful comeback, late on.

Mihailo Petrovic will draw confidence from the way his Reds attempted to fight back through Rafael Da Silva and then Wataru Endo, though Shinzo Koroki was sent-off in stoppage time.

Despite the defeat, the 2007 ACL winners remain second in Group F.
