Gamba, Albi square off with both in need of a turnaround

Gamba Osaka and Albirex Niigata have both had a rough go of it lately, but they have a prime opportunity to start a climb up the table when the two clubs meet on Sunday at 2 pm JST in a match that will be streamed live on the J.League International YouTube channel.

Gamba have lost five in a row and sit bottom of the table, so they are in desperate need of some points. Their attack had been decent, with Takashi Usami and Dawhan scoring three goals each to lead the way, but their defense has conceded 30 times in 14 matches and needs to get better.

Albi started the season excellently, going four in a row unbeaten, but they have just two wins since. Fortunately for the newly promoted Niigata, Ryotaro Ito has been magnificent and is tied for third in the league with seven goals. Having a true star in the attack has eased the burden on the rest of the squad and allowed them to sit nine points clear of the drop zone as they aim to stay in the top flight for another season.

The J.League announced that up to four matches will be streamed live each week for the 2023 season, bringing one of Asia’s top league’s to fans around the world. The streams will be free to view on the J.League International YouTube channel in any country that does not have an existing rights agreement.
