Gamba inaugurate new stadium with Panasonic Cup win

A sold-out crowd saw Gamba Osaka capture the first official match at Suita City Football Stadium with a 3-1 win over Nagoya Grampus in the Panasonic Cup.

The hosts opened scoring in the 26th minute, when new arrival Ademilson’s cross resulted in an own goal thanks to striker Patric’s efforts in the box.

Yasuyuki Konno doubled Gamba’s lead 10 minutes later through a header in heavy traffic, giving the team a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime.

Grampus midfielder Asahi Yada cut the deficit to 2-1 just two minutes into the second half, but Daiki Niwa sealed the win in the 66th minute after heading in Takashi Usami’s corner kick.

The brand new football-specific ground will make its league debut on February 28 when Gamba host Kashima Antlers in the opening round of the 2016 MEIJI YASUDA J1 League.
