Gamba coach Hasegawa only contemplating victory in crucial ACL clash

Kenta Hasegawa revealed he only believes in victory ahead of Gamba Osaka’s 2015 AFC Champions League quarter-final second leg against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.

The manager and captain Yasuhito Endo spoke to reporters ahead of the Wednesday night’s showdown at Banpaku Stadium, with the winner set to face 2013 winners Guangzhou Evergrande in the semi-finals.

“If we win we’ll advance to the next round, so that’s the only result we believe in,” Hasegawa said.

“The most important thing is that we don’t lose to our opponents in spirit, and the second-most important thing is that we commit ourselves to playing our style of football.”

Captain Endo, who was a key figure in Gamba’s 2008 ACL-winning side, echoed his coach’s sentiment.

“I don’t know whether it will take 90 minutes or 120 minutes or go to penalty kicks, but as [Hasegawa] said we’ll move up if we win and so we’ll give it everything we’ve got.

“[Jeonbuk] are a fantastic team so we have to unite and play as one. They won last year’s K-League and they’re in first place again this year.

“They have good players in every position and are very organised, but regardless if we play our normal game we’ll be able to win.”
