Frontale through to ACL quarters but Antlers fall short

Kawasaki Frontale emphatically clinched their spot in the 2017 AFC Champions League quarter-finals with a 4-1 win over Muangthong United on Tuesday night, finishing the Round of 16 with a 7-2 aggregate victory.

Yu Kobayashi, Tatsuya Hasegawa, Eduardo Neto, and Rhayner all found the back of the net at Todoroki Stadium, with the visitors registering on the scoreboard with a late goal by Teerasil Dangda assisted by incoming Consadole Sapporo midfielder Chanathip Songkrasin.

Further north, Kashima Antlers enjoyed a 2-1 win against Guangzhou Evergrande, but goals by Pedro Junior and Mu Kanazaki were not enough after Paulinho scored early in the second half to give the Chinese side a crucial away goal and send them to the next stage.

Urawa Reds will look to join Kawasaki Frontale on Wednesday night when they host South Korea’s Jeju United, who will arrive at Saitama Stadium with a 2-0 advantage from last week’s first-leg.
