Former J.Leaguer Jonsson becomes Sanfrecce’s new manager

Sanfrecce Hiroshima on Monday announced the appointment of Jan Anders Jonsson as the club’s new manager.

The Swede, who served as a player-coach for Sanfrecce Hiroshima in 1993, will replace former head coach Hajime Moriyasu who resigned last week over the team’s poor results this season.

“It’s an incredible honour to return to Sanfrecce Hiroshima and the J.League,” Johnsson said.

“Sanfrecce are in a very difficult situation, but it’s time for the coaching staff and players to dig deep and realign ourselves in the direction in which we should be moving.

“I look forward to meeting everyone on the pitch.”

Jonsson will join the squad in training from July 18, making his debut in the dugout on July 26 when Sanfrecce Hiroshima travel to face FC Tokyo in the second leg of the J.League YBC Levain Cup Playoff Stage.
