Former Uruguayan international Diego Forlan will leave Cerezo Osaka earlier on 22nd June rather than the originally scheduled conclusion of his contract on 31 July, the club announced on Monday.
The 36-year-old veteran, who joined Cerezo before the 2014 season, has recorded 17 goals in 42 appearances across the J.League’s first and second divisions.
“The last year and a half were wonderful,” Forlan said in a statement. “My wife and I are grateful for the love and hospitality we have been shown by the people of Japan.
“I hope the club can achieve a return to J1.”
A farewell ceremony will be held for Forlan following Cerezo’s MEIJI YASUDA J2 League match against Tokushima Vortis on Sunday.
