Yokohama F.Marinos on Friday announced fans can commemorate the memory of former player Naoki Matsuda on the fifth anniversary of his death.
Supporters will be able to sign a memorial flag at the team’s Tricolore One store in downtown Yokohama, where a special tent will be set up at the Minato Mirai store.
Respects can be paid on August 4 between 10:00 and 13:30 local time, after which the flag will be donated to the Naoki Matsuda Memorial.
Matsuda died of a sudden cardiac arrest on August 4, 2011 - one of a tragic series of deaths that led to the call for automated defibrillators to be placed at stadiums and training grounds.
F.Marinos, which the World Cup 2002 veteran called home for 16 seasons, subsequently retired his No. 3.
