Sagan Tosu had the chance to jump into third place with a win over struggling Shimizu S-Pulse, but with less than 20 minutes to go, they were stuck in a 1-1 tie. S-Pulse were playing well, challenging the fearsome Sagan defense, and taking away clear-cut chances. It was going to take something special to beat them.
Eduardo had something special.
The Brazilian hit a 30-yard free kick that blazed past the wall and left the Shimizu goalkeeper no chance as it smashed the underside of the crossbar before crossing the line for the 2-1 advantage.
Sagan Tosu would ultimately hold on for the 2-1 win, marking the second matchweek in a row when Eduardo has delivered victory from an impressive free kick. The central defender is on a hot streak of gorgeous goals, and he’s not just delivered six points out of six to his team in recent days—but also third place.
