Consadole’s Uchimura named J2 MVP for May

Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo striker Yoshihiro Uchimura has been named the 2016 MEIJI YASUDA J2 League Monthly MVP for May.

The 31-year-old played in all four of Consadole’s matches, tying for the league lead with three goals and earning the monthly honour by unanimous vote.

He earned particular distinction for his headers in his team’s Round 13 and 14 victories, both of which came via a 1-0 final score.

“This award isn’t just because of me, it’s because of my team-mates, our fans and supporters, and everyone else involved with the club,” Uchimura said.

“I’m glad I was able to contribute to our good results by scoring goals and I hope I can continue to do so.

“We still have a long season ahead of us but I hope you’ll continue to support us until the end.”

Consadole currently lead the J2 League with 36 points from 17 matches.
