Seiya Maikuma has been named the KONAMI Monthly MVP for May.
The Cerezo Osaka man was outstanding, helping his club to a 13-point month with three goals and two assists in six matches.
Maikuma was out for the early part of the season, making his season debut off the bench on March 12 and his first start came on April 29. He started all six matches in May, though, moving up the pitch to right wing and playing a starring role for the Sakura.
Maikuma’s two goals were the difference in Cerezo’s 2-1 win over Júbilo Iwata on May 6 and his assist was crucial in their win over Gamba in the Osaka Derby two weeks later. He wrapped up the month with a goal in a win over Urawa Reds and an assist as they topped Shonan Bellmare.
Cerezo’s strong play in May propelled them into the top five, a place they hold in large part due to Maikuma.
J2 KONAMI Monthly MVP has been awarded to Albirex Niigata’s Shunsuke Mito. He scored two goals and added two assists as Niigata won five of six matches in May.
Koki Arita was named KONAMI Monthly MVP in J3 after a fabulous three matches for Kagoshima United. Arita scored three goals and added two assists, a spectacular output in a month with only three contests.
