Cerezo retake first place in J2 League

Cerezo Osaka are back on top of the 2016 MEIJI YASUDA J2 League table following their 2-1 win over JEF United Chiba in the league’s sixth round.

Brazilian midfielder Souza scored twice in the latter stages of the first half for the hosts, while JEF could only respond with a goal by striker Elton just two minutes into the second half at Kincho Stadium.

Machida Zelvia reached second place in the standings with a 2-0 win over Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo, with Takafumi Suzuki and Kentaro Shigematsu both finding their way onto the scoreboard.

A three-minute Genki Omae brace midway through the second half helped Shimizu S-Pulse to a 2-0 win at Roasso Kumamoto. All three of the J.League co-founders’ wins have come on the road.
