Sanfrecce Hiroshima striker Takuma Asano revealed disappointment in his own performance following Japan’s 1-2 loss to Bosnia & Herzegovina on Tuesday night in the Kirin Cup 2016 final.
The 21-year-old, who started his first match for the senior national team, saw several opportunities in front of the goal wasted in the defeat.
“I regret that with a chance to score I chose to pass,” Asano said after the match. “I guess I wasn’t feeling optimistic, but I wanted to have the confidence to finish with a shot.
“I made the same mistake before (in Olympic qualifying) when I chose a pass while I was in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. It’s disappointing that I haven’t been able to learn from that experience.
“I still have to do a whole lot more, but on the other hand I sensed that I’m capable of doing more. I need to remember this disappointment and use it to help prepare for next time.”
