Antlers’ Kanazaki earns May J1 MVP nod

Kashima Antlers striker Mu Kanazaki has been named the 2016 MEIJI YASUDA J1 League Monthly MVP for May.

The 27-year-old had a fantastic month, scoring three goals and recording two assists in four full appearances for Antlers.

The selection committee praised his increased presence in defensive situations for Antlers, who are second place in the First Stage title race behind current leaders Kawasaki Frontale.

“In addition to our goal of winning the league I’m happy that I can contribute to our victories,” Kanazaki said. “I hope I can continue to serve as the first line of defence as well as the spearhead of our attack.

“I may have been named the MVP for May, but that’s because we are working well as a team. I hope we can continue to win points so that we can celebrate an even bigger honour together.”
