Albirex fall short in Toyota Premier Cup

Albirex Niigata on Saturday lost 2-1 to Thailand’s Buriram United in the Toyota Premier Cup 2015.

Leo Silva gave the Japanese visitors the lead in the 55th minute at New I-Mobile Stadium but Buriram fought back, equalising when Ko Seul-Ki headed Theerathon Bunmathan’s corner kick into the net.

The two combined again for the winner and Albirex were unable to fight back despite presenting a strong attack in the closing minutes.

The team are now back in Japan as preparations continue for the 2016 MEIJI YASUDA J1 League season, which begins on February 27 at Shonan Bellmare for them.
