Avispa Fukuoka stunned Kawasaki Frontale 5-2 as Match Week 25 of the 2025 MEIJI YASUDA J1 LEAGUE got underway on Saturday, while Urawa Reds and Tokyo Verdy also made sure of all three points from their games against Yokohama FC and Yokohama F・Marinos.
There were four goals and two red cards in the first half alone of Fukuoka’s triumph over Kawasaki-F at Uvance Todoroki Stadium by Fujitsu, with the visitors scoring a further three times after the break to wrap up their comprehensive win.
Kawasaki-F took the lead in just the fourth minute after Kento Tachibanada’s effort from range, but the hosts were reduced to 10 men 11 minutes later when Filip Uremovic was sent off.
The goals then came thick and fast as Shintaro Nago pulled Fukuoka level in the 24th minute with a deflected free-kick from a tight angle, before Erison put Kawasaki-F back in front five minutes later and Takumi Kamijima then headed home from a corner to make it 2-2 in the 36th minute.
The first period ended with another dismissal as Sai Van Wermeskerken received his second yellow card in the seventh minute of stoppage time, but Kawasaki-F battled remarkably well despite being at a two-man disadvantage and it took until the 73rd minute for Fukuoka to move ahead, when Nago added his second of the game from the penalty spot.
Two goals in the space of three minutes late on added the gloss for Kim Myung-hwi’s side - Shosei Usui clipping in a smart finish on the turn in the 85th minute and Kazuya Konno lashing in at the near post with two minutes remaining.
The margin of victory wasn’t quite as wide at NHK Spring Mitsuzawa Football Stadium, where a brace from Hiiro Komori earned Urawa a 2-1 win against Yokohama FC.
Komori opened the scoring when he bundled home from close range in the eighth minute after Yokohama FC goalkeeper Jakub Slowik had saved Takuro Kaneko’s initial attempt, and the 25-year-old added his second eight minutes into the second half when he again pounced on a rebound after Slowik had denied Kaneko.
Adailton pulled one back for hosts Yokohama FC with a neat finish in the 99th minute, but it came too late to make a difference to the result.
Meanwhile, Saturday’s other game was decided by a single goal, as Hiroto Taniguchi’s 62nd minute header secured Tokyo-V a 1-0 win at home to Yokohama F・M.
