Furuhashi wins Premiership Player of the Season as J.League alums shine for Celtic

Celtic FC rolled to the Scottish Premiership title this season and several of their Meiji Yasuda J.League alums have been lavished with deserved awards for their outstanding play at the Glasgow club this season.

Leading the way is Kyogo Furuhashi, who was named Premiership Player of the Season after scoring 25 goals in 34 league matches, to go along with six more goals across cup competitions. That output included a double in the League Cup final, helping Celtic to a domestic double.

In addition to winning the league’s Player of the Season, Furuhashi won PFA Player of the Year and the club’s top player honor.

Furuhashi joined Celtic in 2021 after an outstanding spell in the J.League. He made his professional debut with FC Gifu before moving to Vissel Kobe, where he scored 50 goals in three-and-a-half seasons and was leading J1 in goals before moving to Celtic in the summer.

Furuhashi was lured to Celtic by Ange Postecoglou, who won the J1 title at Yokohama F·Marinos before becoming the top boss with the Scottish giants. He’s won the league in both of his seasons in charge at Celtic Park and was named Premiership Manager of the Season for his outstanding work in leading the club to this year’s championship.

Furuhashi and Postecoglou have the individual honors and two pieces of silverware with the club, but the Scottish treble is still to play for. They two J.League alums will lead Celtic in the Scottish Cup final on June 3, hoping to cap off outstanding seasons with another trophy.
