The Meiji Yasuda J1 League season is only two weeks old, but there are only three perfect teams left. It’s been a competitive start to the season, as Yokohama F·Marinos look great in attempting to repeat as champions, but challengers are emerging.

Yokohama F·Marinos 2, Urawa Reds 0

The Tricolor were on the front foot from the beginning and goals by Anderson Lopes in the first half and Yan Matheus in the second half were more than deserved as the champions made it two wins from two to begin their title defense.

Kashima Antlers 1, Kawasaki Frontale 2

Kei Chinen kicked things off with an early goal against his former club, but Frontale stormed back late with an 89th minute Shin Yamada goal before some stoppage time controversy. Ryotaro Araki was called for a handball and shown a red for a block on the goal line, giving Frontale a penalty that was saved, only for encroachment to allow a re-take that Akihiro Ienaga converted to deliver an away win for Frontale.

Nagoya Grampus 1, Kyoto Sanga 0

It took more than an hour for Nagoya to break through, but they finally turned their bright attacking play into a goal when Kasper Junker fed Kensuke Nagai, who slotted the ball home to deliver Grampus a perfect six points from two matches to start the campaign.

Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo 1, Vissel Kobe 3

The Ushi’s great start to the season continued, with Yuya Osako, Daiju Sasaki and Hotaru Yamaguchi all scoring to give them a three-goal lead en route to a comfortable away win that put them top of the table after two matchweeks.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima 1, Albirex Niigata 2

Goals by Shusuke Ota and Koji Suzuki powered Albi to their first J1 win since 2017 and kept them undefeated through two matches in their return season to the top flight.

Shonan Bellmare 2, Yokohama FC 2

It took Koki Ogawa all of 12 seconds to score the opener then, after Bellmare scored a pair to take the lead, Ogawa struck in the 83rd minute to earn the Fulie their first point of the 2023 season.

Kashiwa Reysol 1, F.C.Tokyo 1

Mao Hosoya kept his hot start to 2023 going with a goal, but Adaílton got one back for FCT to take a good away point for the capital club.

Avispa Fukuoka 2, Cerezo Osaka 1

Hiroyuki Mae started things off with a goal, only to have Satoki Uejo answer to bring the match level, but Takeshi Kanamori’s 88th minute tally put Avispa back in front for their first three points of the season.

Gamba Osaka 1, Sagan Tosu 1

Gamba were dangerous for large stretches and it finally paid off with a 51st minute goal from Musashi Suzuki, but Ryonosuke Kabayama hit back with a spectacular solo effort that saw him leave three defenders in his dust before finishing to split the points in Osaka.
