Grampus continue title chase as Gamba visit Nagoya

It looked like Nagoya Grampus’ title chase was going to take a hit on Wednesday when they fell behind league leaders Vissel Kobe, 2-0, but Kenta Hasegawa’s side fought back for a dramatic draw with an equalizer eight minutes into stoppage time in a statement match for their pursuit of the crown.

Now Nagoya’s attention turns to Gamba Osaka, who visit Toyota Stadium on Saturday at 7 pm JST in a match that will be streamed live on the J.League International YouTube channel.

Grampus’ draw with Vissel kept them three points off the league leaders and right in the title race. They’ve done it thanks to a very good defense, anchored by Mitchell Langerak in goal, that has allowed the second-fewest goals in the league. Toss in Kasper Junker’s excellence up front and it’s no wonder that Nagoya are right among the top teams in Japan.

Gamba haven’t had as much luck as Nagoya this season. They’ve managed just one win on the campaign and have given up triple the goals as Grampus. They’re also coming off a heartbreaking 90th minute loss to Cerezo Osaka, but the match also showed some improved form that could carry over to this weekend as they go in search of an upset in Nagoya.

The J.League announced that up to four matches will be streamed live each week for the 2023 season, bringing one of Asia’s top league’s to fans around the world. The streams will be free to view on the J.League International YouTube channel in any country that does not have an existing rights agreement.
